Trim Tabs - Maxum Boat Owners Club

My 1999 Maxum 46 is in need of a trim tab, the diver dove on it last week and told me that the stb tab had alot of corrosion. I am pulling the boat in a couple of weeks to put bottom paint on and would like to order a new now. So that when the boat is pulled I can replace the tab. I need to know what size the tab is, I understand they are made by Bennett. Any ideas?? I have contacted Bennet and have not had any luck. If all else fails I'll get the diver to go back down. I believe Maxum used Insta Trim, at least that is what is on my 2400 SCR. Here is the link.

welcome to the zoo....I think for that sized boat the bennetts used the 18" long tabs....12" would be too small to get that big of a boat up out of the water on plane....but really...it would be best to have the diver either measure the length....or pull one so you could match it up...some have the lift up ends and others have the drop down ends...so..really...he needs to tell you and give you the measurements....

sorry I couldn't be more specific....but without having that boat nor being there....kinda hard to take a swag.....on my 340 bay...they are 18" drop downs....

I'd expect a boat that size to have trim tabs of a size roughly equal to that of the swim platform on my boat.

What SP said above; you really need to measure what is currently installed - both length and cord. You'd also need to know if each tab is actuated by one or two rams - and where on the tab the rams are bolted to.

Honestly - I'd wait until it is out of the water. Once you've identified the tab it should take too long to source a replacement.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to have the diver go down this weekend and measure the tab and give me the dimensions. This is a new boat for me, so need to get all the bugs out. Roy

Different manufacturers use different hinges, attachment points, etc. If you find the correct size tab from company X it doesn't necessarily mean it will be a direct replacement for the unit on your boat.

Good luck with getting the bugs out. I don't think I've ever seen a 46' Maxum so share some photos of that thing with us!!
