So the first 2010 long weekend excursion to the SJ Island went well. Allthough the weather belonged more to a calender date of early JUNE,,,, we were very happy we splurged for a new camper top this winterRain and wind were barely noticeable inside and the jacket got to stay down below.
The wife, dog and I left early Friday morning from our Edmonds marina slip, headed up the inside of Whidbey Island, through Deception Pass and then on to Dear Harbour to top off the tanks. After having topped of both fuel and ice cream tanks, we headed straight up to Sucia. Neither of us had been there before, but so many of our friends strongly recommended it that we had to explore. I can not say it disappointed!! What a great location! A repeat is in order for later in the year for sure! I had expected there to be a few more boats, but as the weather was not the greatest, I can understand it.
We came back down yesterday (Sunday) on the outside of Whidbey and the upgrade to the 2700 SCR last fall from our 2100 SC was a good one for sure. I would not have done the same route this year in the 2100, but the SCR did the trick.
This week we are going to spend some time in the south sound, hoping the weather will warm up some, but no matter where we go in this wonderful part of the world, we are in for a treat.
Happy and safe sailing to all.
Nils
