Advanced throttle button stuck

Rate this Entry
I bought a 1999 Maxum 2800 SCR on Friday. The Advanced throttle button was pushed in to show me what it was used for and as murphys boating law would have it...it would not release. So, I have yet to take my boat out and a mechanic at the marina has the throttle out and says that cable needs to be replaced to the shifting mechanism. I feel like I just bought a floating condo that won't run. Is this something that can be easily repaired and/or could it be something else?

    Hi debbie..
welcome to the zoo..first off..you might wanna post this in the general forum....more people will se this rather than your capts. log..

second...the shift cable and shifter are fairly easy to replace with a good mechanic....not knowing where your boating at makes it difficult to tell you if the mechanic is a good one or not....
with that said...it sounds like the spring mechanism broke...as to why he wants to change the shifter cable rather than fixing the shifter is a bit of a mystery......

Hi. Thanks for the reply. It turns out the cables were fine, he was able to repair the spring mechanism, etc....very expensive spring! I finally got to take it out thursday and it ran fine. I spent the night on it Friday and once again the A/C stopped pushing out cool air, and barely any air at that.

    Hi Debbie,
First where are you boating, I have a 1998 2800 SCR mine did the same thing it turned out to be weeds clogging the seawater pickup. If you are docked in an area with lots of weeds growing it could be the problem.
