Hello all! I went out boating and wouldn't you know i was out to long and got caught in low tide. I ran the boat aground and got stuck and had to push the boat to get back to the landing. I didn't think much of it because it happens all the time.....So i did a tune up the next day and noticed the lower unit was leaking oil out of the water intake. I figured it was because i had the reservoir on top of the motor upside down while i did the tune up....So i filled the reservoir up and now 3 days later the reservoir is empty and i have oil on the ground...Does anyone have a clue as to what i did? There is no water in the lower unit oil when i drained it and it only seems to leak all the oil out of the reservoir and then stop.....

what drive do you have...do you see the oil coming out of the drive anywhere??....you may have to split the lower drive down and check the seal that seals the upper unit from the lower unit...a little o ring...be a good time to replace the impeller if it's in the lower unit..and stop hitting things with the outdrive...not good for it..........

Mercrusier, the only place leaking oil is out of the water intake. Very slow leak.

Well sounds like one of the seals in the gear train has let loose. You are going to have to take it apart or have it looked at to be sure.
Plus who knows what could have happend to the bearings, gears, shafts and seals inside the lower unit from the grounding? I wouldn't run it at all. If the upper gears run dry the cost of repairs will be at least double!
