2700 painted prop

New to Maxum. Purchased a 2004 2700 and picking it up this week, the previous owner painted the outdrive and props with bottom paint! Should I let it wear off, remove it from the props or be at all concerned about performance? Thanks for the input.

No bottom paint on props!
Bottom paint tends to be pretty ruff and it will affect the performance of the props.
Paints will not hold up on props, I've seen people spray paint their props, just for cosmetics, and after one good run all the paint is gone.
There are special paints for out drives, Standard bottom pain is to thick and tends to hold heat in the OD. You will be amazed at how hot the out drive gets.
Also there should be a 1" non-painted(on the transom) area around the out drive where it meets the transom.

What would you suggest to remove the paint from the duo SS props? I was told to leave the paint on the outdrive until it wears off, do you think I should remove it and if so, with what? Thanks.

If the out dive has the correct bottom paint it will be OK. If it is the same thick bottom paint used on the hull - just keep an eye on the OD temp. After a long fast run try and touch it and see how hot it gets.

As for the props most will come off the edges pretty quick under regular use. - Check the props- usually they are made of alum. not SS unless someone has spent some big $$ to replacing them.
I would try paint stripper- but make sure it won't affect the metal and maybe a brass brush or brass wheel that works with a drill. If they are SS I would stick with the stripper, because the SS is polished pretty fine, and skip the brush.

Don't let this get to you too much, alot of old timers paint their props and drives- Doesn't do any real harm other then cutting into the efficency.

not to disagree with ken..but i would get the bottom paint off the drive and props.....I'd take the props off and get them either bead blasted to remove the paint or use a chem. stripper to get the paint off of the stainless steel duo props..repaint the drive with zinc chromate primer and the proper black paint...make sure your zinc's are up to date and in good shape..they go fast on the b3 drives......

I'm of a similar opinion here - get that paint off the props as a priority.

Pull the props and get them stripped then re-polished.

typically a stainless prop runs from 200-500 bucks, to paint it is practically a crime in my opinion... someone was either really stupid or careless with the paint.

Send them to a propellor specialist in your area, they wil strip and re polish. you will see a noticeable difference in hole shot, speed holding and top end once you get them back.

Are the hydraulics on the out drive affected by the paint? if the paint is on the rods at all it could damage the bushings and do a lot fo damage - I'd pull the boat and get the drives checked - expensive and a pain in the ass but neccessary.
