Ok, I'm sure this has been asked a billion times.
Is there a significant 'safety' difference between marine and automotive accessories? Examples are battery isolators, chargers, inverters.
I am installing another battery for use primarily the on-board accessories (laptop, DVD player, etc.)
I've bared my sole.
Thanks in advance

MM..the main issue is corrosion control...alot of auto stuff are not designed for the salt water environment...if your adding a second batt...then be sure to use marine grade lugs and hardware otherwise your putting the boat at risk a short time later........
good luck with the install..... :D arr

Thanks for the info. I'm with you on the salt factor. Here in the 'inland' northwest most shops install auto components (audio/video types) and do little tricks to prevent water damage. I'm going to go with that theory and press on. I don't anticipate a run thru the San Juans in the near future.
Thanks, Dave

Will you own the boat forever? If not then there's no gurantee it will remain a fresh water boat. If you're remotely near salt water then do the job right. I'm a fan doing things right and doing them once. Do you want to be "that guy"?

Funny, old post. I have since 'followed' the knowledgeable wisdom given and installed the upgrades I mentioned 'correctly'. All marine grade components and hardware.
Thanks for steering me correctly
