I just purchased a new 4G highspeed cellular modem - Novatel Mi-Fi 2372 -to use on my boat and in my lake house. It is tiny - smaller than a Blackberry and can connect 5 devices at once. They just built a new 4G cell tower at our lake and I am hoping to work from my boat and lake place this summer. Maybe I can even use it to watch some Canadian Football League games on the boat this summer. The CFL starts playing at the end of June.

I will let you know how it works.

If you get a chance do a speed test a7 http://www.speedtest.net/.

My iPhone averages 1.4 Mbps with AT&T. Unless I can get >4 Mbps I can't justify another wireless bill.

I have that app on my iPad and will test it. They claim "up to" 7.5 mbps. If I can get close to 3, I will be thrilled.

Just tested. Better than 3 Mbps download AND upload.

How do they charge, by the minute, or by teh volume of data downloaded?

There are plans from $15-75 per month.
Monthly Fee Data Included Extra Data U.S. Roaming1
$15 250MB $0.03/MB $6/MB
$25 1GB $.03/MB $5/MB
$60 3GB $.03/MB $3/MB
$75 Unlimited N/A $3/MB

I am also using this in my lake house, which does not have access to wired highspeed due to remoteness, where I often have teenagers so I got the unlimited plan. It would probably be cheaper in the U.S.
