Has anyone tried to put a generator on a 2400 SCR? The only problem tha I have is not being able to use the outlets and stove. Everything else is 12v. I mostly use my boat at the Colorado River, ie Havasu, Mohave, Parker, etc. and none of the Marinas have shore power. If I get a small portable camping generator will it work in the engine compartment? Or should I suck it up and wait until I can afford a larger boat with a generator.

first off....let me say that when I had a 24...I hated the fact that we were always tied to the docks...but due to the fact that we have 2 dogs that need to pee/poo....we had no choice and shore power was required....
with that said....alot of folks out here use a honda genny and it works great....but...under no circumstances run it in the engine bay....it's not meant to be place there and the CO will kill you in a new york minute.....happens every yr...someone gets the brilliant idea and puts the genny in the engine bay and runs a fuel line from his tank to the little genny...poof...another family gone....
what alot of folks do is place it on the swim step and use tie downs to the swim step.....then run a cord up to the shore pwr recepticle.....using an adaptor plug to connect to the genny from thier shore power chord....
hope this helps..

I understand that they are relatively quiet....not obnoxious like some I've heard...my westerbeke is hardly noticeable....but it's a big unit and was made for boating and is installed in my engine bay.....
honda's aren't designed to be in the engine bay.......go check out the honda 2000..from what I hear..they are really quiet little animals....hope this helps... :D

When they are running in economy mode (light load) you can hardly hear them.
When the load increases, I believe it's over 400 watts, the RPMs rev up and it does get a bit louder, but still not bad at all.
You can also run 12v leads off the genny to jump start a dead battery or run your 12v systems,
