My 2100SC is stored at a State Park here in Northern Va. Most boating is done on the upper Potomac. The family vacation over the 4th of July week to Ocean City offered the first opportunity to trailer the boat to a new location and despite my anxiety came off with out a hitch. The municipal parking lot offered storage for the trailer at a very reasonable 20 bucks for the week, and I kept the boat outside the vacation rental. The only hidden cost was for the additional docking lines.
I pulled the boat/trailer with my 2001 Manual xmsn Pathfinder, and this gave me considerable cause for concern since the rating for Manual transmissions is less than automatic transmissions (go figure). I am now looking for new vacation rentals that have boat slip availability and would love to hear from anyone out there.

Franco - Do you sleep/overnight on you boat?

No,
We are weekend boaters at best. Did manage to haul it to Ocean City Maryland, and on the last night when a thunderstorm cropped up, I spent most of the early hours tending the cover to keep the rain out, but that's about as close to an overnight as I have come.
I now realize that I will need to replace the cockpit cover that I lost about a week after purchasing the boat, or get a zip-in cover that extends from the bimini top across the back of the boat by the ladder. Any ideas as to where to get either would be greatly appreciated.

Boy wait to and see how proud Maxum ($) is on their canvas! I had a piece that got blown off the boat! BTW check with your insurance company mine was covered. I had got the price from Maxum sumitted the claim and then had it make by a canvas guy for half the amount!

I agree with Ken, go to a local canvas guy and have one custom made. It will be much better quality and cheaper. Plus you can get it made exactly the way you want.

I sorta figured that custom fit bit out. As for insurance, the deductable was just enough that it didn't make sense to go that route. The custom guy I used for the front and side curtains did an excellent job, and the end product looks better than Maxum's effort. Guess the adage "Break Out Another Thousand" or Boat for short holds true here.

Just found this board and think it is a great idea. Not much out there to bring Maxum owners together...
I'm from San Diego, boat mainly in San Diego and Mission Bay, with an occasional run out to Lake Havasu.

I know mission bay pretty well, been out with my brother on a 21foot sailboat. You should be into the ocean pretty quick? I don't recall skiiers etc.
What size Maxum do you have?

The time it takes to get to the ocean depends on where you launch.
Dana landing is likely the closest and the straighest shot, but there are launch ramps at the other end the bay and that could take you awhile to get out to sea. Also, a large part of the bay is 5mi/hr which limits how quick you get to the ocean.
I have a 2001 Maxum 2300 SC... great boat for the family!! I have had it about a 1.5 yrs have had a blast with it...

Hi
Just a quick note from Sydney Australia. Ive been a Maxum 1800MX owner for the past 6 months and love it. I know its the baby of the fleet but i had to start somewhere. I would love to hear more tales from other owners and let you all in on the secrets of sydney harbour and some of our other great waterways.
All the best in boating.

Doesn't that much water get choppy, expecially in your boat? I have a 21.5 footer and even in the Potomac river we get bounced pretty good with all the 50 plus boats churning up and down. I have been researching trim tabs for the back, but the unusual channel in the hull design out near the chine makes selection a bit challenging.

Have neighbor who put on Smart tabs - In his opinion it did nothing at all.

I think smart tabs are the ones that are basically just tabs on springs. From my research so far, and in talking to vendors directly, tabs need to be optimized to the hull and just putting something like a smart tab is a shot in the dark. I am looking at something that will be around 14 inches wide and maybe 12 inches back from the transom. I haven't decided whether to go electric or hydraulic, but I'm leaning on electric since the boat is trailered. A good read-out indicator will be a necessity. Of course this is all in the design phases at this point and the proof will be in the water. Will keep you posted.

:D Hey guys I'm new to this site. I have been given a 19' 1992 maxum and I am stoked ! I can't wait to get into the motor I suspect that it wasn't properly winterized that is most common, but still unknown at this time. it was liened by a wrecker friend of mine that has had it for some time and I have the ss prop, excellent trailer, a fresh water boat and not a nick in the hull, too good to be true. the owner began to take the carb and exhaust off and just quit. I have a small box of nuts and bolts it looks to be all there. I already have a line on a 4.3 liter motor and a marine man in florida told me to put marine head gaskets on the motor and I will be good to go...

Fredericksburg VA. We tow our 2006 1800 SR-3 to Lake Anna 20 minutes SW, and to the Potomac River, 20 minutes East and sometimes to the small Rappahanock River 5 minutes away (usually just for end of the season evening cruises).
The Upper Potomac is a great river for discovery's and sight seeing. From the shark tooth beaches to Mt Vernon to passing by DC's monuments on route to docking in Georgetown for lunch or dinner.

Atlanta, GA area, have 3 lakes in close proximity to choose from. I have 97 Maxum 2100 SR2 5.7 and matching trailer. Originally from Lansing, MI, the fishing is crap down here compared to fishing the inland lakes of Michigan and Canada. We dont even have real lakes, they are mostly reservoirs. Cant say I would move back, though, I dont care for the cold.

Since you have a bow rider that is the same length as my 2100SC I am curious as to the ride. Here's some background.
Ours has never been comfrotable in a light chop. Moving the trim in and out, a comfortable ride was hard to come by that is until I installed Lenco tabs. I had friends take pictures of my boat when it was "on plane" as well as just prior to climbing over the top to get on plane. One thing was apparent. the tail end is heavy... It seemed like the best speed was achieved with about half the hull out of the water, but when I saw pictures of it climbing out of the hole, the forward part of the hull was still out. In other words, roughly half the hull stays in the water all the time and the only difference is the pitch of the bow. Once on plane there is less boat in the water, and the nose is pitched down..
With the tabs installed I didn't get many pictures last year, so I'm going to be curious to see where things balance out. Since your bow rider has less weight up front, (unless you have folks sitting up forward) I would be curious to know what your rides are like. Might be different circumstances when you are boating on a lake, that's another variable in the soup. We are up and down the Potomac river mostly, with a few trips into the Chesapeke Bay.

We've talked before in this forum. I'm also from Western Washington. I boat on Lake Washington, Lake Sammamish, Moses Lake, and Puget Sound/San Juan Islands.
I've got a 2006 Maxum 2200SR3, bowrider. Bought it last August. I just took it out of winterization a few weeks ago. Finished installing dual-batteries (starter/house), put a wake board tower on, installed a VHF radio. Got the GPS/Sounder coming next. I'm into fishing season now. Been trying to catch a Chinook salmon near Hat Island out of Everett, but I keep catching the wind instead. Not by choice I found out I can handle 5 foot seas in my boat. Something I don't want to find out again.

I can highly recommend the Lowrance 337CDF if you can still find one. See :
http://sempreveloce.tripod.com/id2.html
The cup holder makes an excellent place to mount and you can see where the GPS antenna/rx is on the dash. This works very well. The unit has to be the easiest of all the units I tested as far as user interface. Lowrance is shifting to a newer GPS receiver and the have added rs232 to the unit and renumbered it to the 525Cdf, but all else remains the same. Since they've upgraded the model, you can get the 337's for about 6 bills.
I'm selling Sempre Veloce, and will probably leave the Lowrance in it for sales purposes and just have the new one mounted in my 255 SSi Chaparral.
I think you'll like it.

Unfortunately for me, I don't have a cup holder in my dash. The 2200 SR3's have a curvy dash all the way around making it diffilcult to mount anything there. I'm currentily using a handheld gps (Garmin eTrex VistaC) with a marine mount that's glued to the dash. I ordered a new Garmin 440s last night, but since they're brand new it'll be late March or April before I see it. The 4" screen will be a lot better, plus it's got a fishfinder as well. Mounting it will be a problem though. The best thing would be to find a product that will allow me to attach it either to the windshield frame or to the windshield support pole. The problem with using the support pole though is that it's on the left. Having the unit on the right of the driver would allow me to see the screen while pressing buttons while driving. Unfortunately Maxum didn't take this into consideration when they designed the 2200SR3.

thats actually my most used cup holder. Its where I keep my phone, cigs, coffee (then i gotta put the other stuff back in my pocket or into the the retarted cup holder that basically on the floor next to the seat). I just installed the gps and half of my fishfinder. Couldnt finnish the job cause i still got the shrinkwrap on. the wrap comes off this weekend which is when im gonna install the tabs.
Well my point is that when I installed the 2 units it was hard to decide where they go I thought long and hard about using the cupholder like you did. I was debating that franco cant be wrong, but i decided agains it and used the dash where I put them on both sides of the compass. So one is lightly angled to the right and the other to the left, looks like a cockpit. Works for me cause I still have my cupholder.
