View Full Version : Through Hull Transducer - 2700 SCR

My 1990 2700 SCR had a Hummingbird transom mount tansducer. Of course the bracket was broken and the screw holes were letting water into the bilge. I moved the tranducer to the bilge floor and leveled it in a mound of silicone. This works great in my Sea Ray but not in the SCR. I find this odd because there is an old factory tranducer on the bilge floor. Do I have to buy a through hull tranducer? Which one will work on the SCR? I assume there are double layers causing the problem.

what you need is a shoot thru hull tansducer..the one that trails the boat and is exposed to the water is of a lower wattage ratting and will not be enough to shoot thru the hull.....

Thanks. That makes sense. My Sea Ray 210 must have a thinner hull.

So finally had my boat out this weekend and switched on my depth sounder and it started working perfectly! I still have the external transducer mounted on the floor of the bilge in silicone. When I looked in the engine compartment I saw that there was about a cup of water surrounding the transducer. There must be a small air void in the silicone. It should work good if I redo the silicone job. In the meantime I can just pour a cup of water on it.

I thought transducers mounted on the floor, needed to be done with a good 24hr epoxy, being careful not to have an air bubble.

Silicone worked on my SeaRay. Maybe I should try epoxy, I have about 3 gallons of the stuff.

It works fine with the silicone whenever I have a little water in the bilge which tells me I have air bubbles in the silicone. I will redo it sometime when I run out of other projects.

yep...it's installed with silicone sealant....if you can get a huge can of it...it will be better to pour it into the mold ..use a huge piece of pvc piping to use as a mold....


actually ....as I sit here thinking how they installed mine on my 2700....they epoxed the piece of pipe to the hull...let set..the installed the transducer and added the same type of oil that was used in trim tabs and installed it there....there is a kit you can get that you install the pipe...stick the xdcr into the pipe after it sets and add the oil...then the cap....that's the best way to install a shoot thru hull xdcr...
