Maxum 2700 Paint Project

Last fall I got a 1990 Maxum 2755 Cruiser. Was sorta a fix'er up but did run out well. I loved the lines of the hull but the 90's paint scheme and vinyl stripes I just couldn't live with. Here's a few pics of what I did...

Yes, I did this myself. I don't paint for living, just a hobby. Paint is sherwin williams automotive for top side. Have some west marine house brand bottom paint on the way. It will be black as well.

I way underestimated the amount of time it would take to complete, but it was fun and definately different from painting cars!

Boat is unbelievable. The 442 is very cool too. I think we may be overlooking the trifecta in the pics. Holy Shnikies look at that shop!!!!! I'm lucky if I can get a 2HP outboard a dirtbike, a lawmower and a snowblower in my shop at the same time, and that still requires negotiating 6 steps to get in and out.


Oh ya, the boat looks amazing!!!!! Now all you have to do is drive by the guy you bought it from to tell him how much you love it. LOL

well...hate to say anything bad about a pretty job...but why did you use automotive paint??...that stuff won't last long in the marine environment....you shoulda used gelcoat.....more durable and much easier in the salt water environment..

We will just have to see. I had the abilities to paint it myself, and can fix it if need be. It would be hard to justify a gel job that costs more than my 20yo vessel is worth especially with me trying to burn it up on it's 2010 maiden voyage :)

WOW! That is incredible! Question, is the gold maxum logo a decal? Also, on the marine paint issue, if the boat is in freshwater, will it wear differently than on salt water?

Yes the gold logos are just a vinyl decal I got off ebay. As for the paint, I'm sure salt water is way more harsh on just about everything including paint. For topside applications there is little difference between automotive and marine if you look at the ingredients. One huge advantage of automotive is that is can be sprayed without a respiration system. I'm still very happy with my paint job. Thanks everyone for the compliments.
