I have used this in the cabin during the winter to prevent freezing and keep things dry:

Can I place this directly on the engine without fear of it getting too hot and doing any damage? I also have an Extreme Heat bilge heater that kicks on when it drops below a certain temp, but I like to have redundancies to protect against freezing.

Thanks all.

I actually use one the engine bay on my 340....and my old 2700SCR....it will stay on constantly but what would help alot is to block off the intakes on the sides of the boat.....just remember that it's only pumping out about 700 watts...all it's going to do is basically keep the bilge a bit dryer...not totally dry...but close...it won't keep the engine bay warm by any stretch of the imagination......
