Hello, i have twin 5.0's in my 3000 scr. Two weeks ago i blew the starboard serpinteen belt. It did not completly break just the edge farthest from the engine ripped. I had it changed by skippers buds mechanic and i put maybe 40 minutes on the new belt when the exact same thing happened to the new belt. Is my motor out of alignment or do i have a bad pully on the motor??? Any help is welcomed!!!!

man..I hate that when that happens.....last yr I had issues with belts..drove me nuts...found out that one of my hose clamps was too close to the belt and would cause damage as the belt spun up......check for any hose clamps that might be close...there is no way the engine alignment to the drive could cause the belts to go out on you...

here's a thought though....take a straight edge..something like a yard stick...set it on the pulley's and make sure that they are still straight...doubt if anything changed there....

then take the old belt off and go to your local car parts house......shucks or auto zone...have them match the belt up.....they can give you a belt for 30 bucks as opposed to mercruisers 65 bucks per belt.....

Hi there just a thought on you belt problem, if the thrust bearing on you crack shaft has worn you may have excessive end play witch may shift the drive alignment with the other fixed pulleys. To check (with the belt off) grab the harmonic balancer and see if the crank will move back and forward.

I have found the PROBLEM!!!!!! My alternator mount had a slight crack in it and was flexing when under hard acceleration and causing the edge of the belt to rip!!!!
