Force engine 85 hp

I just picked up another boat last night this one is a 1986 Bayliner bass trophy in perfect condition like new .Anyway it has a Force 85 hp engine & on cold starts it back fires a couple times b 4 it starts,after its running it purrs like a kitten.Any clue why it is back firing??Thanks for any input

you might need to adjust the carbs....they may be out of sync and needs to be set so that one doesn't work harder than the other..thus causing the backfire...if I remember right...outboards have multi carb set up...
