I am a bit new at this but as the season winds down and I am thinking about it still I have a problem with my 4.3L when starting. In the middle of cranking the starter grinds. I am assuming the sound I am hearing is the Starter pinion grinding against the flywheel (almost like the solenoid is getting weak and jumping around). I have no problem replacing the Starter and Solenoid combo if that is the trouble but I would hate to go through the rounds to find out that it's something else. Anyone else ever experience this?

Also has anyone every done risers on one of these motors? and if so what scale of job is it, they seem to be readily available to get at.

take the starter off and go to an auto parts store..they can test if for free usually....as far as anything else...check all of your battery and wire connections to make sure they are clean and free of corrosion...if they get corroded..they could cause the starter to not fully engage...

the risers are pretty straight fwd...a bunch of bolts and it will just about fall off the engine...hope it's nothing serious....good luck
