ok i got a power steering question,we just baught our first maxum boat it has twin 350 mercs my question is both engines have power steering pumps.but only one engine has a power steering fan belt ,shouldnt both engines have power steering belts.

Typically both engines have the same identical pump/pulley/belt set up with only one of the pumps actully piped to the power steering unit (normally starboard in a twin setup) and the other is piped to run in a continuous loop (don't ask me why other than this is most likely the manufacurers way of minimizing engine/bracket configurations)

Well that’s a good thing to know, when my 3000SCR arrives ( about 3 weeks time ) and that is the case 1 pump dose nothing but be an expensive jockey wheel I may look at replacing it with a jockey wheel using the some size/type pulley and keep the pump as a back up/spare. Ill keep you posted if I come up with something

thanks for the imfo we werent sure its are first twin engine boat.seemd strange to have 2 power steering pumps and one fan belt.yeah are starboard engine has the fan belt for the power steering and the port just has the power steering pump
