Hi all and a question about a Maxum 1800 SR2 (1994)

Hi,

I am Jeroen, I live in The Netherlands and I am planning to buy an used boat. It will be my first boat. I am not a Maxum owner (yet), but I probably will be in a week.
I am interested in a Maxum 1800 SR2 build year 1994. I was searching the internet about specs from this model but I couldn't find it. I found this forum and I hope you people can help me with this.
Does anyone know where I can find the specifications from this boat ?
One of the things I am interested in is the weight of the boat. In my country they hava a bunch of rules regarding trailers, max. load, and the car which is pulling the trailer. So I want to be sure the boat isn't too heavy for the car I have.
I searched at the archives from maxumboats.com but they don't go further back than 2000.

first off ..welcome to the zoo..hope you can visit often and glad to hear your getting a boat...not sure how the rules work out there but hopefully you will get it surveyed by a certified surveyor....this will tell you everything you need to know on the condition of the boat.....I think that size boat really runs about 3k lbs including trailer....but I'm not exactly sure...someone here with that model will probably jump on and let you know the info your looking for....welcome to the club and hope you have alot of safe and happy boating days......

Last friday I had a test drive with the Maxum I am interested in, and next Saturday I going to have a closer look when it is out of the water together with an expert. If that's all ok than I become a Maxum owner too :wink:
The boat has the original Maxum trailer but that type of trailers is not allowed here. So I have to get a new one or the original one has to be modified.

take a plastic hammer and tap the hull especially the transom...check all oils for wear or water...get a compression check of all cylinders...check the play in the drive for tightness in steering..also check all electrical systems....look for spongy decks...just to name a few...
..if the surveyor says it's a good buy...jump on it...but if there are things wrong with it..the use that to negotiate a lower price...hope everything works out.... :wink:

Do you know an address in the USA where I can order Maxum parts for older maxum boats ?

well..most parts can be obtained at places like west marine or boaters world....maxum specific parts can probably be ordered thru the www.maxumboats.com (http://www.maxumboats.com) website and look up parts....even the manual for the boat can be gotten there...I'm checking with a source friend of mine that works at the factory where the boats are made to see if they have a specific site or number you can call to get maxum parts....other things like engine and drive parts are typical mercury marine parts and you can get those at any mercury dealer in your area......

Congrats on buying your first boat - should give you many hours of enjoyment.

Just to confirm the weight...
I have a 1989 model (cuddy - not bowrider) with a 5.0 ltr Mercruiser and it sits on a trailer with a max Gross weight of 1600 kg (legal requirement here also in Australia) so your boat would almost definately NOT be greater than that.

Also, just to expand on seapuppy's comment - tapping the hull with a plastic hammer will let you know if the fibreglass has de-laminated. This is not a good thing however it is not irrepairable depending on the extent. You are listening for a hollow or dull sound as opposed to a good solid sound.
