I am in the process of doing a good cleaning / restoring before launch this year. After compound and wax, I am planning on hitting the black plastic dash with a formula called "back to black" (by Mothers) and oiling the teak accents. As I was onboard the other day, I noticed that some of the interior wood pieces (part of the dash, the bulkhead leading to the cuddy) are covered with what looks like a glued on red plasticky veneer...I was thinking about removing the veneer (its just glued on), sanding down the wood, and then oiling it with teak oil. Has anyone done this or does anyone have any recommendations? Think this might go well?

Will hopefully post photos when finished!

neversummer, quite a few years ago, I had a boat with alota teak. If I remember correctly, I used a two step product called Wonder Teak. First step cleans the dirt and grey and the second treats and restores the color. It worked great. Don't know what kind of wood you'll find under your "plasticky veneer", but my guess is plywood. If the plywood is still in good shape, you could sand and either replace the vinyl applique or replace with thin wood veneer. Just sanding, staining and sealing could work too, if the plywood sands out well...but, my guess is that they covered it for a reason... I wouldn't recommend using teak oil on any of the wood unless it's teak and then, only after it's been cleaned. I miss the look of teak, but I don't miss the upkeep!
Good luck and have fun
