Transom Dirt Removal

We trailer our boat to the water and after each day on the lake I hand wash it inside and out. The lake we boat in leaves and unbelievable yellow film on everything inside and out.
The basic boat soap I use takes it off no problem, but last weekend I noticed blackish smears all over the transom on both sides of the OD. The soap didn't make a dent.
I've read about folks using rubbing compound on their hulls, is there a certain kind to use?

Don't use rubbing compound!!!! Whilst it reaps great results it should be used only a handful of times on a boats hull/deck in its whole lifetime.

Get hold of a Fibreglass and Metal polish called "Fritz" - try google - this is great for all the fibreglass on your boat and metals. Its a great polish that reaps awesome results :) its not super cheap but it does a great job and a tiny amount goes a very long way... a bout 5ml will do your whole transom no problem!

The black crap round your transom is from your exhaust fumes... its particuarly bad as you are breaking the boat in and will get better in time (lots of oil being burnt).

I have the same slimey brown stain here in the Potomac after less than an hour in the water. I believe it comes from the decomposed leaves that make the water brown.

The absolute best is a hull cleaner by StaBrite. This company makes two hull cleaners, one is in a white bottle and the other comes in a blue bottle. Be sure and purchase the Blue bottle. This stuff is amazing. It not only removes stains, but also will make small scratches disappear. I swear by the stuff and always keep an extra bottle in one of the side pockets.

Remember Blue bottle and it says stain and scratch remover.
